Cricket South Africa ends Herschelle Gibbs contract


Gibbs has played in 90 Tests and 248 one-day internationals for South Africa

Herschelle Gibbs's international career could be over after his Cricket South Africa contract was cancelled four months before its expiry.
Gibbs, 36, released a controversial autobiography in November detailing drinking, drugs and sexual antics by him and other players.
He also criticised team-mates, calling captain Graeme Smith "too powerful".
CSA asked its lawyers to look at the book, and a possible breach of contract by Gibbs, soon after its publication.
CSA chief executive Gerald Majola said on Friday the early termination of Gibbs's deal with the national body, which had been due to expire in April, had been "by mutual consent" and was "the best move for both parties".
In a statement Majola thanked Gibbs "for the contribution he has made to the successes of the Proteas."

What does this mean for South African cricket?
Gibbs has played 248 one-day internationals and 90 Tests and has a batting average of 41.95 in the longer form of the game.
His last appearance for his country was in May 2010, when he was out for three against Pakistan in an ICC World Twenty20 match as South Africa were knocked out of the tournament.
Out of favour since then, it is questionable whether Gibbs would have been brought back into a younger, successful side irrespective of his revelations.
Majola added: "Because of the sensitivity of the matter as well as the confidentiality agreements signed between the parties, the matter is now closed and there will be no further comments from the parties concerned."
Injured captain Smith and star batsman Hashim Amla were named Friday in South Africa's squad for the first Test against India from 16-20 December at Centurion.
In announcing a 15-man squad, selection convenor Andrew Hudson said both men were expected to be fit for the Test after suffering injuries during the recent drawn series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.
